Winter Wonderness
For us it was an epic event – for those who live here – its an annoying thing that happens every winter – but for the first time ever on Saturday – Jordan and Channah (and Emma) saw snow for the first time up close.
Em and Dan have come over for a holiday and we took the opportunity on their weekend with us to see the cold white stuff everyone has complained about at work for the past few weeks.

There really aren’t words to describe the awesome thing that was the drive up to the snow but it wasn’t without its drawbacks (as minor as they were) like having to put chains on the car – but we mostly left that up to the boys, the fact that snow being made of ice, means it is also made of water and so is extremely wet, something Em found out when Dan tackled her face first into it – and I learned when jordan threw a pile at my face that ended up down my top (as I hadn’t quite managed to do my jacket up yet), the other thing that was interesting is that when the sun is out – it feels almost nice… I say almost, as at this point our feet were threatening to drop off. Yes even despite the plastic bags Chan had put on her feet inside her shoes – great for keeping the water out – not so good for keeping the cold out.
Em and Chan also discovered that it is possible to freeze denim to a point where it becomes solid and thumps around your legs as you try to walk. And chan lost the hem on one leg of her jeans as it froze to the footpath and ripped off when she walked again… oops.
Jordan and Dan tried to kill each other by throwing snowballs they had packed so tightly that they made a dull thud when they hit rather than exploding.
Our dream of snow angels went unfulfilled as we realized that we didn’t have waterproof clothes on and would be saturated beyond belief had we laid in it.
it was awesome (as always, you can see the photos here.
