Time for an update

Its been a little while, so here’s an update of some of the things we have been up to.

Last wednesday night we decided to head out for dinner, so we headed to The Tap Room, a bar/restaurant in Christchurch’s little strip of restaurants on the river. We had read about their Stonegrill meals and decided we had to check them out. (click the image below for all the photos).

We ordered ourselves a bottle of wine and had some bread and dips/pate for starters, and then our Stonegrill meals arrived. The Stonegrill meals are cooked an a heated stone about 15x25cm in size. It is sprinkled with salt, and then the meat is simply placed on it. About midway through the cooking, the whole stone is served (with meat still cooking, and veggies on the side) for you to finish cooking the meat to your liking as you slice bits of it to eat.

Surf and Turf

Chanhad order the Surf and Turf (which you can see above) complete with scallops and prawns, and I ordered The Game Plate which consisted of Kangaroo, Venison, Rabbit and Ostrich. The stone was incredibly hot, and the meat was sizzling for the duration of the time it was on the table. We were both able to cook and eat at our leisure, letting the meat reach the right level of done-ness. I was expecting to feel a bit gypped having to cook my own meal, but it was fun, and it tasted absolutely fantastic, and all cooked no oil, just searing heat. (Dessert was also good, but you’ll have to look at the pictures for that).

So, what else has happened… We had breakfast at a castle on saturday, and endured the most annoying bank clerk ever to try and sign up for debit cards. I went to see muse on sunday night, which was just incredible. And we lost soccer last night (both Chan and I were playing) 3-1, but it was pretty close.

The next few weeks are going to be pretty full on. We have a quiet weekend and then in the following weekends we are heading camping with my work, flying to rotorua for a weekend, and driving up to picton to spend Christmas there. So it’s all happening.
