happy 08

chan | 31/12/071 Comment

hello to all our friends not in NZ… As of 36 minutes ago - we are now enjoying what 2008 has to offer - so far that means no rain, some fireworks, and some terrible music countdown shows - but we have each other and thats the most important thing.

UPDATE:  The No 1 on the music countdown (40 biggest Dance Floor fillers) was “Thriller” by Michael Jackson - complete with 9 minute film clip (Happy New Year Lukey!!)

we had a spectacular BBQ dinner, complete with real meat from a proper butcher and fried onions and chips on the barbie. jordan did an awesome job and we are now settling in for some dessert wine (from the Montana vineyard) and its quite lovely.

we had a very quiet new years as it appears most people leave Chch and head off in all manner of directions to see in the new year.

we are looking fwd to what 2008 will hold for us and we would love to hear from you and what your plans for this next year are…

As i finish work for this year i am reflecting on what a huge yer it has been for us Gillmans here in NZ - there has been a lot of changes and we are so thankful to God, our friends and families in Aussie and our new friends and workmates in NZ for helping us to feel accepted and loved no matter where on the globe we are.

We want to wish you all a very merry christmas and a happy and safe 2008.

Please keep in touch with us - we love you and miss you and will be back on the air once home from our awesome adventure up north.

On Saturday morning we are heading off for our third weekend away in a row. This time we’re headed to Picton up the North of the South Island for a couple of days (and Christmas). Wine, outdoors, fishing, a caravan park and Christmas. Should be fun.

In other news, i have taken the holding page down of jordesign.com so it is up and running again. I am going to be working on the design as I go, so for now it is very plain.

Well we had a fantastic weekend up in Rotorua. Too much happened to squeeze it all in here. I recommend looking through the photos, but i’ll jot down a few highlight and lowlights (you can decide which is which).

  • Seeing the Giant Kiwifruit
  • Driving through miles and miles of Kiwifruit orchards
  • Seeing the closest thing to real beach we have found here (at Mt Manganui)
  • Awesome Fish and Chips at Tauranga
  • The Smell
  • Seeing Boiling Mud and Geysers
  • Watching Australia thrash the Black Caps
  • Enjoying a relaxing mineral spa overlook the lake at 10:30pm
  • Rolling down a hill in a large inflated ball full of water
  • 4 Hours at Rotorua Airport waiting for a delayed flight

ok so its about 100 degrees and im sweating like a guilty man in an interrogation room. its tuesday night and we have just gotten home from indoor soccer… unfortunately we managed to lose the game by 1 point in the last 20 seconds but it was a good game. i think i will only have a few bruises this time around and jordan got a bleeding elbow but thats fairly standard for him…

oh well - theres always next week.

I’ll keep this pretty brief, and let the photos do the talking, but I just wanted to fill you in on my work Christmas Party/Camp which was held over the weekend. On Friday night a handful of us headed down to camp at Okains Bay, and a bunch more joined us on Saturday morning.

i’ll let jordan tell you about his work party weekend and i will tell you about my work lunch.

we headed out to Ohoka (about 35 mins from town - some people didnt come cos it was too far) to one of our directors place, to have lunch and hang out together. we got there slightly after mid day and for the next 2 hours or so - people arrived and jordan was able to put faces to a lot of names he has heard. we were treated to an Amazing spit roast lunch and a copious amounts of drinks. the kids were treated to a bouncing castle (no i wasnt allowed) and fuse ball table. we finally ate about 2.30 so were getting a little hungry and we then spent some time playing football on the lawn - see pic below.

it was a great day and nice to spend time with people that have now become our friends… we even got to have santa, who came in a mustang convertible… very very cool.
