Hail to the Bus Driver

jord | 31/1/080 Comments

For the past 9 months my bus driver to work in the morning has almost always been the same guy. I can think of 2 or 3 occasions when it was someone different, but it has almost always been him.

For some reason, my morning bus always runs 5-10 minutes late. I always end up sitting at the terminal watching as the time to arrival on the screen sits at 2 minutes for extended periods of time, then all of a sudden it goes straight to 0 and he is here.

This morning i sat down to wait for my bus, with the screen saying 2 minutes to go, and to my surprise it counted down to 1, and then shortly afterwards to 0 and the bus arrived. I got on, to find that its a different bus driver. And I ended up getting to work 10 minutes earlier than normal…

little miracles

today,  sarah (my best NZ girl friend) had an ultrasound to tell her that she was going to be the proud mother of a baby boy in a couple of months - and it kind of got me thinking about the number of friends and relatives i have, that have experienced parenthood, and how it has changed them and their lifestyles. Of these friends, a fair number (including sarah) were told that they would not be able to conceive, let alone carry to full term… so it kind of got me thinking about the amazing blessing that babies are and how precious they can be when its what your heart yearns for most…

however, we are not planning to become parents quite yet, i just thought i would share a thought i had.

Going Live

The Hills Have Eyes dvd

Hi everybody, sorry I have been so quiet, not an awful lot happening. Life continues on as normal. Australia Day was super low-key, and it was very sad to be at work yesterday when we knew everyone back home was having a public holiday, but that’s ok.

The most exciting news so far is that I have another site live. Autorentals is a car and campervan hire company, an existing client who’s site we redesigned and revamped.

Ok so i am feeling uncharateristically good for a Friday - maybe thats why, cos its Friday… but either - its nice to be alive today.

have a few things to be counting down for and today is 2 months and 4 days til Mum arrives and i an quite, quite excited.

also, the cricket started yeaterday, the tennis finishes this weekend and every night this week i have been able to watch sharks eating stuff on tv as part of “Shark Week” on the Discovery channel.

Planning on spending the weekend foguring what to do on Waitangi Day (NZ DAY really which is on the 6th of Feb) our Australia Day BBQ was put off because the courtyard is mid-refurb so maybe in a few weeks.

Aaaahhhhh - what a life!!!

heath dies

i have to say i was genuinely shocked to hear that heath ledger died… thinking of his poor daughter growing up without a father, his family never really knowing what happened, Michelle Williams being devastated…

i think the worst part is that he is going to be remembered most for portraying a gay cowboy…  and thats just sad.

Summertime

.!.

Despite the weather being generally a lot colder over here, yesterday was a lovely summer day. Sunny enough to get the washing line instead of the dryer, and pull our chairs out into the courtyard to to sunbake and read for a little while.  We’re both now a little bit browner. Then we had a lovely summer bbq dinner with beer and cricket and tennis. How Aussie of us both. It was a fantastic day.

tennis or cricket or both

We have found this week that it has been both good and bad to be watching live sport from australia. on one hand - becuase of perths 4 hour delay - we are getting to see a lot more of the cricket (despite Oz playing badly) but the 2 hour Melbourne delay has been depriving me of more sleep than i like ot admit. we have had a few very late nights and last night i called it quits at the end of the 4th set. Melbourne is looking quite lovely and we have both felt a little homesick as last year we spent time watcing the Open with family and friends.

Jaxon is becoming increasingly confused as his “awake time” which is the middle of the night is now being impeded to he has taken to sleeping just about anywhere that he can be the most annoying, but he is still so adorable we have to love him.

Below is a picture of him completely asleep (to the point where when i picked him up to move him he didnt wake up!)

not australian enough

jordan is forcing me to write this blog despite me being quite sad about it.

Friday at work i was giving out an email address and spelling a name (for the second time) when the guy on the other end of the phone said - “oh im sorry, im an aussie, i couldnt understand what you were saying.”  i was so shocked and surprised i couldnt even come back with anything at all - i just hung up dumbfounded.

so i think we are going to have to have an australia day bbq to remedy the situation…

Tax Time

jord | 10/1/080 Comments

Ok, so the deadline for tax has come and gone, but i decided this week that i should go about seeing if i can sort out our Australian tax while we are still over here.

It turned out that God had us well sorted out.First I found out that our normal tax agent (H&R Block) does online tax returns, and a quick email confirmed that there was no problem with us doing it from over here, without meeting anyone face to face. Keep reading…

OK so i am ‘enjoying’ my second day back at work after holidays and lamenting the fact that its only Tuesday.

Not only that - we have our first Team Cabbage soccer match tonight so that should be interesting - playing the team coming last so that sould be a bonus for us!!

UPDATE: Despite the bruises, hot weather, and falling over in quite an interesting fashion, we WON!!! 3-0 - it was awesome as it has taken us from almost the bottom of the ladder to 6th. Not convinced we will make the playoffs but its been fun anyhow
