A Quick Update

Just to let you know where we are and how we are going…

We’re spending tonight up at Tauranga (towards the middle top of the North Island) in the Bay of Plenty. We’ve had some fabulous weather in the past few days but sadly today has been miserable, pouring with rain and blowing a gale.

We brought our wireless internet on the trip with us, but sadly their coverage doesn’t include much of the North Island, so we have been disconnected the last couple of days. I managed to get some more photos uploaded today. I won’t get a chance to name or label them, but feel free to have a look.

We’re on the road again tomorrow and working our way to Gisborne for New Years where we hope to be some of the first people in the world to see in 2009. Then working our way back towards Wellington to fly back to Christchurch.

Exhibitionist

Its been a while since we went to see it (on the 23rd actually), but we finally got to see my photographs in the exhibition at Te Papa (the National Museum of New Zealand).

We went into the Ourspace exhibition and the first thing we were met with was a map of New Zealand on the floor.

The Holiday Starts

Well here we are in Wellington. We had a lovely beautiful day for our trip North on the train and ferry, and another gorgeous day yesterday. Sadly today has been miserable, but a lovely day to bunker down and relax in the hotel room.

Kaikoura

We’re here tomorrow, and then hitting the road on Boxing day and heading North. We’re going round the North Island in a clockwise direction before returning to wellington then flying back to Christchurch.

food nirvana

Last of the Dogmen release I once heard a sermon from a guy who’s opening story revolved around being overseas and thinking about cheeseburgers, re-living in his head the experience of eating a cheeseburger and anticipating until he could once again enjoy one. At the time i wondered how anyone could get that excited over eating a cheeseburger - or any other food for that matter.… and so my story begins.

Almost 3 yeas ago I attended a conference in Wellington which went for only a couple of days, and since I was the only one who hadnt been before I just went along with the crowd in terms of what we did and where we ate.

Homeless

That’s right, as of 2pm yesterday afternoon we are now the above. The upside of which is that we don’t have to pay rent anymore, the downside being we no longer have somewhere to keep all of our stuff.

We’re writing from our hotel in Christchurch. It feels kind of weird to be in a hotel when everything is so familiar, but kinda cool. We’re up at 6 tomorrow morning to begin our holiday. A train North to Picton, and then the InterIslander Ferry across to Wellington where we will be spending the next couple of days.

To Catch a Thief

We’ll taking LOTS of photos and trying to get some of them posted here as well as some information about what we have been up to. So stay tuned…

calm before the storm

its the morning of my second to last day at work and i can feel the ambient pressure beginning to build. and its quite terrifying. all these things to do and the ssmall amount of hours are looming but its not all bad. i havent had time the last few days to think about anything much so the reality of us leaving hasnt sunk in yet - so i guess thats a good thing.

in other news - the car has been written off (whiich makes it sound WAY more interesting) and we are looking forward to what they say next.

dream run comes to a screeching halt

let me start by saying that jordan is fine!!!
but our car (which we have just agreed to sell) is not so fine. Jordan was rear ended on the way home last night and now we have to contend with insurance companies whilst going on holidays, moving home, and trying to get everything else ready.
thankfully no one was injured but its not the best way to end our final work week. the car still goes but has come out of the whole thing looking liked a craxh derby vehicle.
jordan did everything right so theres some sense of acomplishment in my lessons teaching him how to drive :)

A Strange Card

in your sleep

We found this card in a box of others, and i thought it was asking for a slight addition…

Another Milestone

It is exactly one month today until we arrive back in Sydney. Things are starting to feel a little like they are coming together.

All our boxes were picked up yesterday without too much fuss, so the place is starting to feel a little more empty. As of this morning we have someone who wants to buy our furniture which is FANTASTIC. The people moving into the unit after we move out don’t have anything, so we are just able to leave it in the unit for them.

There is one week of work left, bound to be hectic for the both of us. Then we move out of the unit next saturday and into a hotel for a couple of nights, and then we are on HOLIDAYS. yay.

waiting

so i am at home today waiting for the moving people to arrive to collect our belongings to bring back to Australia. and i have to say - its all getting pretty scary. it feels like we have been here for such a small period of time but we know that so much has changed since we’ve been away.

its hard to think about being back in sydney and leaving everything we have established here in Christchurch.

im really going to miss being here…
