where?

chan | 26/6/090 Comments

I get the feeling that now MJ has died -
the list of
“where were you when X died”
has gotten just that little bit longer.
i have to say though - i feel for Farrah Fawcetts family at the moment - having her death be nothing more than a byline on most newspapers. Just because people knew it was going to happen, doesnt make it any less tragic.
i also feel for the poor family of the truck driver who was shot in the head at Milperra last night for no good reason other than someones aim was off.
People die all the time - and most of them less weird and twisted than the ones that will be remembered for the longest.

i wasnt going to bother to write anything about the game but it was just so sad and horrifying. in the words of Roy and HG - it was a dog’s breakfast - with pike.

the only good thing about the game was the company we watched it in - and the dessert.

Are You Wearing Thongs?

So… the place to buy our NZ oils etc was in a bottle shop in Thirlmere on the way down the coast to Mittagong… obviously from the above photos they must ahve problems with bogans slipping over.

Since it was about 10 degrees we were ok with our real shoes on - but given that the owner is a kiwi i was left wondering why they didnt write jandals (kiwi for thongs) but i guess it does explain the need to specify feet thongs or *otherwise*.

I know it was a little while ago but i have been a bit sick and… well no excuse but im writing now.

Our weekend was wonderful - we fell into the usual trap of booking up our time and then having to un-busy ourselves… its REALLY hard. Im not sure we’ll ever be able to do the ‘nothing’ this - short of going somewhere that there is literally nothing to see or do…

But.. we did visit a lot of places we went the last time we were down there and it was gorgeous. Jordan even managed to re-take a bunch of photos that he took in 2006 when we were last there.

We stayed in the same place but thankfully not in a tent this time and we cooked our own breakfast and dinner so our little room treated us kindly.

We treated ourselves to breakfast at one of the best cafes in NSW and arrived at 8.10 to ensure we got a table - they are always busy - and lucky we did - by 9am it was pretty full.

we even arrived back home in time for a hair dye, house clean, furniture construction afternoon on the Monday.

All in all a very nice weekend away with my lovely husband who is the nicest most beautiful man i know… and i get to keep him!!

p.s Jaxon was mostly well behaved but still managed to scare the dragon…

Typesetting

On the weekend i had a fantastically nerdy experience as I learnt how to set type by hand out at the Penrith Printing Museum.

Celebrity

jord | 11/6/091 Comment

I’ve been doing a bit of thinking recently about different trends in youth culture, and one of these is the phenomenon of Celebrity (the uppercase usage is deliberate). There was a time (until not that long ago) when people of note in the world were famous for a reason. You could argue the importance of their achievements but generally speaking people became celebrities because of outstanding performance (sporting, cultural, scientific) or do to their great leadership or perhaps compassion. challenge

This weekend we are heading off for a couple of days to try and do the unthinkable… Nothing.
We have never tried this sort of holiday before and we are both a little sceptical about how it will work but we’re giving it a go anyhow.
Each time we have been away from home we have tried to cram so much into our time that we return home exhausted. So we are leaving the computers and phones at home (not really – we will have our phones) and embarking on a sleep/book/knitting/writing weekend.
Jaxon is being looked after by aunty dragon and puff and will hopefully behave himself…
Best thing about going away is the possibility of finding the shop in Thirlmere on the way that stocks some of our favourite NZ oils, dressings and liqueurs.

Origin

Well the result was a little disappointing. But we had a lovely night watching the state of origin with t and r and e. Plus we got around the no BBQ rule in their block of units by using an indoor grill. Our organic scotch fillets from the everleigh farmers markets tasted fantastic. Good times.
