the race.….
today i spent the saddest Melbourne Cup Day ever… huddled in a cubicle with a colleague listening to the race on a radio - hoping to not be overheard.
it was uneventful - i think maybe next year i will have the day off. Its not about the race, or the money, or the partying - its about all of Australia for 10 minutes having something in common that has lasted me a lifetime of memories. its just a little bit sad to have missed out this year on spending that time having fun with people that i am around most of my week…

the post the race.…. - written by chan on www.jordandchan.com.
well, I agree that the girl having a baby on her wedding day was tragic - but you cant say that hovering around a radio to listen to the cup at work is tragic! you should have filmed yourself and sent in to to the 7pm show on channel 10 - they are looking for how people spent their 10 mintues of cup time…
have edited the post to reflect that though maybe not a tragedy - it certainly wasnt what the day has been to me in the past.
I understand how you feel :( It was a complete non-event here, no mention whatsoever. In other places I“ve worked there was always someone running round with $1 sweeps and everyone stopped to watch the race on the projector screen. Seems my current workmates are too busy to take 10min out for a bit of fun and tradition.
Puff and I spent the race time at mothers’ group, with all of us forgetting what time the race started so missed it altogether. we all reminisced on times gone by about sweeps and being in an office where we all stopped and enjoyed the 10min break in solidarity with our colleagues. times have changed for me, so that’s a bit easier to accept.
you’re office not stopping, that is just sad. I hope it was bearable though.
