Quietness

jord | 15/6/081 Comment

Its been pretty quiet over my side of the blog, so I must apologise. Its been crazy busy at work the last couple of weeks, so the weekends have been deliberatly quiet. Lovely and relaxing.

After the flurry of snow last weekend it has become much milder, although there is always the threat of it getting cold again ina real hurry. The ski fields have started opening up (the major reason for work being hectic) and are hoping for a cold and snowy winter. We haven’t decided yet wether we will head to the snow, part of us is hoping that we will get to see some more of it in christchurch :)

Webstock

Chan is right, i’m up in Wellington at webstock. The slightly sad thing is that so far i have been here for about 29 hours so far, and have been in sessions for 17 hours or so of that… when you factor in sleep, I haven’t seen too much of Wellington, but it has still been fantastic.…Session’s about to start…

More sites

jord | 24/10/072 Comments

It’s time for another show and tell. A few more sites of mine have been launched (some I am more proud of than others) and i thought i would give you a look.

NZONE
A skydiving site based in Queenstown and Rotorua. The design was supplied by the client and then I adjusted it to work better and put it together.

MagicLive
Put together for an existing client, this is to supplement their existing site and provide a more community-focused area to share videos, pictures and stories of people’s travels around NZ.

NZVentures
A Budget priced touring company offering trips around both islands, targeted at a younger market and based on their existing marketing collateral

Fashionista

yesterday afternoon, my first site (designed at my new job anyway) taken from concept through to completion launched. Check out chocolat-nz.com, it’s a site for a fashion label over here, and one of four that will be launched sequentially in the next month or so. Enjoy…

In a few weeks time, i will get to see Helvetica (A documentary film). Turns out it is doing a world tour of screenings, with the director Gary Hustwit doing a Q and A afterwards. So geeky, and so wonderful. (Thank you to chan for agreeing that i should go)

Pre-Spectrum 1

well i guess its time to fill you all in on what i have been doing in my spare time while we’ve been here… it is something that i wanted to do in aussie before we left but with so many artistic people around me i never got the nerve up to do anything about it…
so i moved countries and then God had to teach me patience about a job - so i filled my days with painting and cleaning and reading instead.
on the way home from driving jordan to work a couple of weeks ago i passed an art shop sdvertising 50% off all canvases - that was the only incentive i needed so i stopped and bought a few canvases and some paint and a brush… then it sort of all snowballed from there - i was going to do primary colours and then figured that with half price canvases i could do all the colours in a normal palette - so i did… here is what it looks like and i am very happy with the result - as is Jordan who helped me hang them this arvo.

Spectrum

You can see all the photos of it being put together in this gallery on flickr.

Resigned

jord | 23/2/070 Comments

I don’t know whether I mentioned it or not, but I resigned from Sinnotts last week. 4 and a bit weeks notice, so I finish up on the 16th of March, giving me 2 weeks to help get things sorted before we fly out. My teeth are still hurting, but healing well, and the stitches should start falling out soon apparently.

We are down to 2 weeks until we move out now, and the house continues to be full of half full boxes, and half empty cupboards and shelves. I am heading to Mens convention at Katoomba tonight and tomorrow, but Sunday will be jam packed with packing and sorting. Fun for all the family.

On another note, I was looking into a lot of Flash design portfolio websites yesterday for on reason or another. There are so, so, so many sites that are flashy and wooshy and impressive, but totally unusable. You cant find the navigation, the text is tiny and unreadable, and there is almost no content to speak of. For all the advances in making flash more accesible, and quicker to download, and more versatile, there is still loads of awful stuff out there.

Just a thought.

We break from our regular programming

This is a quick off topic post. You may or may not have heard of threadless, but it is an awesome online t-shirt shop where i buy most of my shirts from.

Anyhow, they have just accepted one of my submissions for voting to see if it is made. I’m asking you a massive favour to go and have a look at it, and if you like it, vote. If it gets accepepted I will get a bunch of prizes, plus it will be printed in a limited edition run, and that will rock.

Thanks everyone. We now return you to your regular program…
