Looking for Trouble

jord | 10/2/081 Comment

This morning I headed off for work, having decided it was warm enough to wear my Wallabies jersey for the day. I got a few strange looks at the bus stop, but nothing untoward. I was happily walking to work after hopping off the bus, when this truck starts slowing down and pulls over next to me. The driver leans across the passenger seat, through the open window.

Mate, I just wanted to let you know… Thats a really ugly shirt you’re wearing. Cheers”

He leans back into his seat, and drives away…

I guess at least he was polite.

TradeMe

jord | 3/5/077 Comments

In Australia they have Ebay, in New Zealand they have Trade Me. Well, they actually have ebay, but no-one uses it, they all use Trade Me (which is basically the same thing).
Anyway, we have made our first couple of purchases (surprise, surprise) and it all seems to work pretty well. We have picked a hair dryer, and just tonight we won a phone to plug into the computer and use with skype.

And in other news, I’m a week into work and all is going well. The “days of work” to “days of work involving cake” ratio is currently very high, and the work isn’t too bad either. But being a working man again, I am quite looking forward to tomorrow afternoon, and the weekend.

A Day in the Cashmere Hills

Christchurch from the Cashmere Hills [080407]

Thats where we live now, weird…
This photo was taken up on one of the hills above Cashmere, which is down on the south side of Christchurch on our little day outing today.

We met a lovely couple at church on Friday who invited us back to their house for lunch today. Both of them have crazy green thumbs (they studied agriculture and horticulture) and we both learnt a lot out in their section (kiwi word for garden). The even have a plant called a Swan Tree, whose main purpose is to serve for a breeding place and home for the caterpillars that turn into Monarch Butterflies, it was incredible.

After a lovely lunch they took us on a Tiki Tour (a short trip) around the hills mentioned above, including a very muddy and steep (but otherwise lovely) bushwalk. Over the other side of the Cashmere Hills is the main harbour which was created by a volcano (now dormant) and is gorgeous to look at, especially seeing as though we didn’t even know it was there. The road is long....

They even sent us home with fresh sweet corn from their garden for our dinner after the evening service (jealous much dave?).

Check out the photos of the day here or you can see photos from Easter Saturday ( a day at the beach, and the laundromat) here.
