New Team, New Location

jord | 28/10/081 Comment

The last soccer season finished up a few weeks ago, and with depleted numbers and a few players taking a season off, our team (The Hooligans) was sadly discontinued. I had a great time playing with the boys (Jerry, Nath, Jonno, Roger, Ric, Cam and Brad) and I will really miss it I think.

The good news is that Eliot Sinclair has another team playing, so i will be joining them to keep playing at least up until Christmas. I have played with them a few time before, and it should be good, although we are playing in a different competition, so it will be interesting to see how that goes.

ok so im not sure how it happened but now (well tonight) i became an honorary cabbage.

now i have never played indoor soccer before but i’ve watched a LOT of it and its a bit harder on the  court than off…

But i kicked their goalie in the face - and almost scored so it wasnt all bad…

and i feel better of it although mostly just feel unfit :)

i’ve been invited back so it wasnt all bad… jordan said i was pretty good - but he could be biased

There were 2 very proud victories yesterday.

The Kangaroos thrashed the Kiwis 58-0 in the International Rugby League test in an absolute drubbing. We got to watch the game one the Maori Channel a couple of hours delayed, which was exciting.

But what was even more exciting was that the Hooligans (my indoor soccer team) won our grand final yesterday afternoon 9-7. It was always going to be a tough match, and could have gone either way. We were down 4-5 at halftime, although we felt as though we were marginally on top. As the opposition got more frustrated and tired, we were able to capitalise and pull away. The sparked a small comeback late in the second half, but were able to hold them off to clinch the victory. Huzzah.

hmmm, that title looks a little strange. Some people will get the random NKOTB reference. But anyhow…

Soccer last night was a tiring experience. There is now another Eliot Sinclair team in the comp (the teams consist of mostly people from Chan’s work) so I filled in at goalie for the other team, before backing up the game after to play for my own team. The good news was that both teams walked away with victories which was very exciting. My injured wrist held up pretty well and i’m going to have an excellent scab on my elbow from the astro-turf.

In other news, I’m hopefully pretty close to being able to show of a couple of new websites I have done for work. They are mostly completed, and we are getting close to switching them on. I will let you know as soon as they’re up and you can have a look.

That’s all for now.

Well, for a quick update on soccer from the other night…

They only had 4 players in the end, so it was lucky i was there. The game is heaps quicker than futsal, which I am used to, as the field is sorrounded in nets and the ball never goes out. Getting used to the other different rules was a bit interesting, but i mostly have the hang of it now.

Anyhow, we ended up winning 8-4 which was good. And we found out the best thing of all, the sports centre has a bar upstairs overlooking the 3 nets. So we were able to go have a celebratory drink after our victory. Good stuff.
